It took three extra innings but the Sikeston Bulldogs finally walked-off against the Notre Dame Bulldogs in the 10th to capture the Class 4 District 1 championship 8-7. Senior Trey Smith knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th to score freshman Payton Howard, who lead off the inning with a triple. It’s the first district championship for Sikeston since 2007. Notre Dame tied the game in the top of the 7th at 7-7 and the game remained tied until Smith won it the bottom of the 10th. Sikeston will play the winner between Potosi and Festus on Tuesday, May 23.

The Bell City Cubs won its third straight district championship on Tuesday as they look to defend the state championship and win for the third straight year. Senior Austin Hicks threw a complete game, three hit shutout and paced the Cubs who only needed three runs to defeat the Oran Eagles and capture the title. Catcher, Bobby Wright hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first and it was smooth sailing from there. After the first inning Hicks allowed only two more hits and didn’t walk a single batter. The Cubs will take on Cooter next Monday.
