Indoor batting facility to be added at Capaha Park

The Cape Girardeau City Council voted on Monday to approve the construction of an indoor batting facility at Capaha Park. The cost of the $320,000 facility will be shared with Southeast Missouri State University.

Last year, the City of Cape Girardeau partnered with Southeast to renovate Capaha Field, home of the Southeast Redhawks baseball team and the Cape Girardeau Capahas. The plan included the addition of artificial turf and new netting. The project came in more than $300,000 under budget.

City Council voted unanimously, with one abstaining, to join the university in the construction of the indoor batting facility. The facility will be maintained by Southeast but is available for use by the Capahas.

Southeast will be collecting bids for the project in coming weeks.
